Bilingual Contracts Literacy and China-Ready Utilities

(approximate 4 hrs 45 mins)

In 2021 JAN, China consolidated its laws into 民法典 that has immense implications favoring international trade. Laws. What pertains to Contracting took up half of its overall content, symbolizing the emphasis on documentary and terms literacy, particularly those impacting contracts.

For Singapore companies dealing with China, understanding bilingual contracts and reviewing the business etiquettes in China grew in importance. However, what will help us to succeed on the negotiation table goes beyond the papers hence the introduction to templates, tech tools, trends, cultures and appreciating the differences in conversational Chinese to bridge communication as well as some linguistic techniques which will be covered in this course.

  • introducing common themes in common law contracts and the basic principles of engagement. Consider contracts more than a legal tool but an engaging process to include and improve stakeholders’ interest, believing in Prevention (of dispute) is more important than cure(litigation).

  • 探讨民法典內容,取其精辟,简要讲解。主要论述法章变动与其意义也包括新加坡公司在中国有关合约课题的知识壁垒。

  • introducing common/useful terms in contracts and highlighting the different interpretation or arrangement of linguistic used in Chinese versus Englight contracts.

  • After lunch(1hr), we’ll practice using translation app, sort out common etiquettes when dealing in China, understand terms, rhetoric and looking to expand our understanding of the Chinese systems through thematic analysis.
